G8 nations: High prices threaten global economic growth

OSAKA, Japan (AP) -- Soaring oil and food prices pose a serious threat to global economic growth, the finance ministers from the Group of Eight industrialized nations said Saturday.

The world economy faces great uncertainty amid surging inflationary pressure because of the recent rise in commodity prices, a joint statement said as the ministers wrapped up two days of talks in Osaka, Japan.

They urged oil-producing nations to increase production to help stabilize the spike in oil prices. They also said all nations should address the possible food crisis and be ready to give emergency aid.

"Elevated commodity prices, especially of oil and food, pose a serious challenge to stable growth worldwide," the statement said...(Read more..)
